Il trattamento a base di testosterone e S-23 dei topi modello Dex ha anche bloccato l’upregolazione e l’attivazione delle ligasi ubiquitiniche e di altre proteine ​​che aumentano il catabolismo cellulare, tra cui MAFbx, MuRF1 e FoxO. Risultati simili sono stati osservati in un modello murino di immobilizzazione degli arti posteriori. Nel loro insieme, questi risultati supportano la conclusione che i SARM possono invertire e prevenire il catabolismo iatrogeno e indotto da malattia pur avendo un effetto minimo o un effetto beneficamente antagonista sui tessuti androgeni.
